Deal 8 cards to each player, face down. Players can look at their cards.
Place the rest of the deck face down in the centre of the table. This will form the draw pile for the rest of the game. First person to yawn starts.
The first player begins by playing one card from their hand face up directly beside the draw pile. (The top of the draw pile will act as the head for your first mongoose.)
Each player takes turns to place one card per turn at the end of the current mongoose.
If the current mongoose being built is in a specific suit — green, orange or red — the user may only play that suit or a rainbow card. Any colour of card can be connected to a rainbow card.
Each mongoose must have only one head and one tail, but can have any number of body pieces (or none). If a player cannot take a turn, they must draw one card from the draw pile and skip their turn.
A player wins the game by being the first to get rid of all their cards.
Gift a player one of your cards
Nominate a player to pick up one card from the pile
Take an extra turn straight away
The next player skips their turn.
Reverse the order of play and swap the Longoose's orientation (tail-to-head).
When a player is down to their last card, they must make a mongoose sound.
This can be whatever they think a mongoose sounds like. It's forbidden to look it up online. Anyone who makes an accurate mongoose sound has clearly looked it up online and is permanently banned from the game, as is anyone who claims that another person has made an accurate mongoose sound since they have clearly looked it up too.
Everyone loses.
